Autumn Walk, my oil painting of a brilliantly colored autumn leaf, is on view in a group show this summer.
12”X12” Show
My painting is featured in the 12"X12" Show at Dick Blick Art Materials in Wheaton, Illinois.
The show presents work in all media that measures no larger than 12 inches in any dimension. My piece measures exactly 12 inches square, making it a perfect fit for this show, which opens Saturday, August 4, and runs through Sunday, September 30.
About Autumn Walk
A few years ago, an autumn walk in the park near my house inspired this small painting.
An artist friend had come for lunch and an afternoon painting sessions that day. After eating, we went out into the sunny coolness to enjoy a stroll.
Several maple trees had shed leaves whose brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows seemed to glow in the grass. Each of us decided to commemorate our walk by capturing that colorful beauty in paint.
My version stresses a single leaf’s almost unbelievable, otherworldly brightness—autumn’s final flash of light before the trees stand completely bare and winter comes to cloak everything in white.
