Art Opening July 7 In Chicago

One of my new mixed media pieces will be on display at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago from July 7 – August 12.

I’m excited to announce that one of my latest mixed media pieces has been accepted for display in a show here in Chicago. It will be on view at the Reunion II exhibition, which opens at Woman Made Gallery on Friday, July 7.

I’m so excited to display my piece, “How To Build A Mountain,” which is one of my latest artworks and will be on view for the first time in this show.

And I’m so happy to be part of this exhibit, which celebrates Woman Made Gallery and its accomplishments over the past 25 years. The gallery’s co-founder, Beate Minkovski, has curated this show to feature work by 51 of the gallery’s artist members as a salute to member artists across the years and the growing visibility of women’s art in the world.

“How To Build A Mountain,” mixed media

My piece moves away from my roots in painting to embrace mixed media. It combines collage with cotton thread, crocheted thread, and the delicate unryu (“cloud dragon’s breath”) paper I often use for paintings in recent years.

I’ve been exploring themes of permanence and impermanence and the spiritual origins of our material reality through the paradox of delicate and even fragile materials used to represent some of our planet’s most heavy and “earthy” features, namely mountains. I’m looking forward to sharing my explorations with the public by being part of this exhibition at Woman Made.

You can get a sneak peek at the exhibition on the Woman Made website page for the Reunion II show at http://womanmade.org/reunion-ii/
